For our SHOWTIME LUNCHEON we have the final screening of MY WEEK WITH MARILYN – a film that is pure pleasure to watch. Beginning with a light luncheon on our lovely lawn area, then into the Theatre for a live performance from David Underwood, tickling the ivories on our concert grand piano, we’ll then sit back and enjoy MY WEEK WITH MARILYN. Life is a journey, not a destination. Many have pilgrimed along THE WAY, and this most beautiful film by Emilio Estevez follows a father, Martin Sheen, as he walks the magnificent Camino de Santiago in Spain, also known as The Way of St. James. "Funny, moving, hip and transcendent all at the same time, THE WAY is both deeply thoughtful and enormous fun to watch.” (Washington Post); “Gentle, likeable and profoundly touching, it makes you want to dig out the hiking boots and make the same journey.” (Empire). THE WAY begins Thursday.
THE WORLD OF WOMEN (WOW) FILM FESTIVAL is a unique showcase of films by women with a different kind of storytelling. Films range from comedies to dramas to animations and include: UMOJA: NO MEN ALLOWED, the amusing & life-changing story of a group of tribal Samburu women in Northern Kenya who reclaim & empower their own lives, turning age-old patriarchy on its head, when they set up a women’s only village; and in CAMERA OBSCURA, Maria lives inside her Camera Obscura, until the day she feels that things outside are changing. No one seems to notice those changes … sometimes you need to create projections in order to make the others see. This Thursday 17th May at 7:15pm, $19.50 with proceeds going to stop human trafficking.

Piano virtuoso SIMON TEDESCHI’s concert performance is THIS SUNDAY here at Avoca Theatre. Simon has performed for George W Bush, Vladimir Putin, Hujin Tao, the Dalai Llama and Luciano Pavarotti, and now he wants to perform for YOU! He has worked with instrumentalists as varied as Roger Woodward, James Morrison, and Larry Adler who described him as the finest pianist he ever worked with.
