ADRIAN CUNNINGHAM'S
THE HISTORY OF SAX
Friday 4th May at pm.
When one thinks of jazz, which instrument jumps immediately to mind?
It is, of course, the saxophone! A voice so strongly associated with this music that one could be forgiven to believe it was invented for it!
From the early masters like Sidney Bechet and Lester Young, to Charlie Parker, and John Coltrane; with each new era there was a saxophone voice leading the way. With a rich and colourful history of 100 years, Adrian Cunningham will take you on a historical musical sax tour filled with tales of gunfights, mental hospitals, nudity, and of course, hard swinging Jazz!!
Adrian has put together a stellar band for the night:
PETER LOCKE is one of Australia's top jazz pianists and in very high demand. Known as the "Fred Astaire of the Ivories."
ANDREW DICKESON is regarded as Australia's most accomplished jazz drummer with one of the most relaxed and effortless techniques. Currently the principal lecturer of jazz drums at the Sydney Conservatorium Of Music while at the same time being one of the most sought after drummers in the country.
DAVE PUDNEY is one of Sydney's leading double bass jazz musicians and has played and recorded with Don Burrows, James Morrison, Bob Barnard, Tom Burlinson as well as Adrian Cunningham.
